Thank you for joining us at the Wishes for Peace Exhibition at St. Paul Union Depot on Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th from Noon – 8pm.
Union Depot (214 4th Street East at St. Paul downtown) was transformed into a Japanese Garden with Peace Cranes hanging everywhere, dance performances, and a reception to celebrate PEACE. From the atomic bomb drops of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Sadako’s crane story of folding 1000 cranes to cure her disease from the atomic bombing, the crane represents the hope of a wish. From the rising chaos throughout the world to the violent incidents in hometowns, more than 5000 cranes have been made to commemorate these horrific events and bring about wishes for new memories of peace and times of loyalty and strong friendships.
Additionally, on Saturday, October 15th, AMA premiered our documentary – “The Registry”. AMA worked with award winning producer/director Bill Kubota (KDN Film) to produce this compelling story of Japanese Americans veterans during WWII, who served with the lesser-known Military Intelligence Service division. This one and half hour long documentary is deeply moving. Their struggle to be recognized as Japanese American’s and their contributions to end the war, despite most of their loved ones being trapped in the internment camps. A page of history should be honored, not FORGOTTEN.
