What’s Buzzin’? Pollinator Party: A Celebration of Bees
The Pollinator Party brings together bees, scientists, beekeepers, food, and live music. This annual event also provides an opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate the life and work of honey bees and native bees. Honey bees and wild bees play a major role in the productivity of American agriculture through the pollination of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
The 20th Annual Como Park Japanese Obon Festival is Next Month!
Bonsai, martial arts, singing, dancing, drumming, delicious food and a host of other cultural exhibits and demonstrations will line several paths throughout the grounds of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory for the 20th annual Como Park Japanese Obon Festival.
The Como Park Japanese Obon Festival will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 3:00pm-9:00pm. Admission is $5.00 per adult (13+), $3.00 per child (ages 3-12) and Seniors (ages 65+), free for children under 3. Free shuttle bus service will be available from a staffed off-site parking lot located at 1930 Como Ave.
We have expanded the footprint of the festival, added more food vendors, entertainment, exhibitors, and porta-potties.

Summertime Food Safety is Just as Important as Any Other Time of the Year
July is the first full month of summer, and with more people engaging in food-related outdoor activities such as picnics and barbecues, the risk of food-borne illnesses rise. Pregnant woman and young children are among the highest at risk, so to help WIC staff educate their participants on food safety and extra precautions to take during the summer, the WIC Works Resource System provides a number of resources on the Summertime Food Safety page.
The USDA Would Like You to Know More About WIC and Farmers’ Markets
In addition, summertime is an excellent opportunity to educate participants on the benefits of shopping at local farmers’ markets. The Farmers’ Markets page provides a number of resources for WIC staff to help their participants find a local market, select seasonal produce, and prepare nutritious meals for their families
Speaking of Farmers’ Markets, Do You Know Where the Nearest Farmers’ Market is?
There are nearly 30 farmers markets and mini-markets operating in Minneapolis in 2018. The Farmers Markets of Minneapolis collaborative officially formed in early 2017. Current activities include collaborative metrics collection, marketing, technical assistance and other collaborative opportunities to build a more connected, accessible and effective market system, in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, University of Minnesota, Homegrown Minneapolis Food Council, Minnesota Department of Agriculture and other market champions. The collaborative welcomes and encourages all markets to participate.

Free, Family Event! Join Taikollaborative as we supply worldbeat and taiko drumming for the first day of this weekend event.
July 14th: Taikollaborative opens the event at 11am.

Are you Excited for the FLOW Northside Arts Crawl? We are!
Come out and experience the Northside through its annual arts festival.
FLOW is a non-juried, self-guided tour of studios, galleries, theaters, commercial and vacant spaces over a mile and half of the West Broadway corridor. From b-boys to ballet, graffiti to graphite, rap to Rhapsody, fine artist to the artisan, practicing to professional, FLOW showcases the great art being made every day on the Northside.

The METRO Gold Line is a planned nine-mile Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line that will connect St. Paul, Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale and Woodbury generally along Interstate 94. Come to one of two planned open houses to learn more about this exciting project!
Attend an open house to:
- Learn more about the Gold Line project, current status and next steps
- Help shape the station locations and BRT design to reflect the characteristics of your neighborhood
- Speak directly with project staff and ask questions
- Find out how to stay engaged in the project
No formal presentation is planned.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation conducted a survey about bicycles. The 5 Question survey covers the frequency of cycling, purpose and distance, and an additional ‘tell us anything else about bicycling in Minnesota’ section. The responses to the survey are definitely interesting to say the least. How about you? Is there anything you’d like us to know about your bicycle habits?

Traffic congestion on freeways in the Twin Cities metropolitan area is holding steady as the population of the seven-county metro area continues to increase, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
